Not only is this class part of the BC graduation requirements, this class will help assist you with developing your student education plan so that you do not waste time taking classes that you do not need. I recommend that you take this class your first semester at BC. Click here for this semester's Student Development schedule. 5. Go to class. Obvious, right? Maybe, but sleeping in and skipping that 8 am class will be tempting at times. Resist the temptation. In addition to learning the material in class, you'll also receive vital info. from professors about what materials you will expect on tests, changes in due dates for homework, etc. 6. Be an active learner. Take notes (during class). Participate (in discussions). Annotate your text. Form study groups. 7. Get to know your professors. Take advantage of your professors' office hours. Get help with homework and discuss ideas about class papers and projects. Additionally, you never know when you might need a letter of recommendation, and it helps when your professor knows who you are. 8. Improve your skills. Take classes to develop effective reading and writing skills. Take a study skills class. Make use of the Student Success Lab, Peer Tutoring Center, and Writing Center. 9. Find the ideal place for you to study. It may be a cozy corner of the library or your local coffee shop, but find a place that works best for you to get your work done. Avoid distractions and sharpen your focus. 10. Get Organized. In high school, the teachers would lead you through all the homework and the due dates. In college, the professors post your assignments -- often for the entire semester -- and expect you to arrive prepared. Buy an organizer, a PDA, a big wall calendar -- whatever helps you to know when assignments are due. |
