About Me
I received my MA in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from CSULA, my BA in English from UC Riverside, and I have an Adult Education Credential from the University of San Diego. I have taught English as a Second Language at both the community college and adult education levels for a number of years, and I briefly taught English at the high school level. In 2009, I joined the Academic Development Department at Bakersfield College.
I am married, and I have a wonderful and energetic four year old son. I grew up in West Covina, which is located about 20 miles east of Los Angeles. Currently, my family and I live in the beautiful Kern River Valley. Even though my commute is long and winding, I love the view of the lake from our backyard, the clear night sky with its numerous twinkling lights, and long walks during the spring when the mountains are covered with wildflowers.
My favorite hobby is organic gardening. I love to mix flowers and vegetables together so that they work in perfect harmony with one another with no need for pesticides. Other activities I enjoy are camping, hiking, reading, writing, and cooking. I also love to travel, and I have been to over thirty states. Despite the fact that I love the sweet scent of Oregon's pine trees, the clear blue Washington sky, the charm of West Virginia, and the beaches of Hawaii, family and friends along with near perfect weather always lead me back to California.
I believe in creating a more sustainable earth so that future generations can thrive. My family is working on shrinking our ecological footprint little by little by doing things such as growing our own food, buying locally grown food, shopping with reusable bags, and composting waste. We are currently researching alternative fuel, rainwater harvesting, and Permaculture.
